Exciting Township Legislative News!! And you can count on Normal Township to be discussing this!

SB 3565 passed both the House and the Senate this session and now awaits Governor JB Pritzker signature!

This bill could dramatically and positively impact the way both Bloomington and Normal Township are able to provide assistance to our residents.

The bills amends the Social Services Article of the Illinois Public Aid code to allow Townships to use public aid funds to establish and administer food banks, food pantries, and programs for providing in-kind aid in meeting basic maintenance requirements such as toiletries, clothing, and paper goods to persons who are poor, indigent, homeless, or in need of immediate assistance REGARDLESS OF THEIR ELIGIBILITY for general assistance under the code.

This legislation, if signed, will give townships the ability to use our resources to help many more people in our community have access to food and basic hygiene items. This is vital during a time where the Federal Government is destroying SNAP, WIC, and other social service programs.

Normal Township is pleased to announce it has been appropriated $300,000 through the Build Illinois Bond Fund, administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), for capital improvements at the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC) for adults age 55+ and Normal Township Hall.

The funding was secured through the efforts of State Senator Dave Koehler Il-91 (D), who advocated for the investment to help strengthen facilities that serve residents throughout the township.

The appropriation will support critical capital improvements that will enhance services, improve accessibility, and help ensure that both facilities continue to meet the needs of the community for years to come.

Thank you so much Senator Koehler and the State of Illinois!

The Normal Township Board is excited to unveil our plans for our capital improvements later this summer!
