🛡️Black Sea Defense & Aerospace is the international tri-service Defence, Aerospace and Security exhibition, gathering over 650 companies from 36 countries under the patronage of the President of Romania.

This year's edition runs for three days, and our startups will be right in the middle of it — at the Startups Stand, Pavilion G.

Cornel Amariei built dotLumen - Empowering the Blind with a team of 30 — engineers, scientists, disability experts — starting from a research question about what the world looks like when you can't see it. 👓
The answer became the first smart glasses designed for the mobility of the blind, and in 2021, a 9M euro grant from the European Innovation Council.

Now Cornel is among the top 10 young innovators in the world, in a cohort that has previously included Elon Musk. 🌍

🇷🇴 Romanian Innovator Among the World’s Top 10 Young Minds

Cornel Amariei, a young Romanian entrepreneur and engineer, has been named among the top 10 young innovators in the world, receiving a distinction previously awarded to global figures such as Elon Musk — a remarkable recognition of both talent and perseverance. 🌍✨

Born into a family where both of his parents were hearing impaired, Cornel grew up closely connected to the challenges faced by people with disabilities. This personal experience became the foundation of his mission: to create technology that improves lives.

He went on to develop smart glasses designed to assist visually impaired individuals, a solution that uses advanced technology to help users better understand and navigate their surroundings, offering greater independence and confidence in daily life.

His journey — from a young Romanian passionate about technology to an internationally recognized innovator — reflects determination, empathy, and a clear vision for impact.

This achievement highlights Romania’s growing presence in innovation with purpose, where technology is not only advanced, but also deeply human. 🚀
