Born in Tokyo, Kana began her violin journey at age 4 with the Suzuki School for Talent Education in Edmonton, Alberta. In Chicago, she studied with legendary pedagogues Almita and Roland Vamos, before performing in master classes with Menahem Pressler and the Vermeer Quartet, winning a Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition prize, and earning the concertmaster chair at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
Now a University of Houston alum and proud Houstonian, Kana performs with ROCO, Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, and Mercury Baroque Ensemble, while also sharing her love of music with over 20 young students 🎻

Next month, Houston’s Chamber Orchestra reunites with guest conductor Rei Hotoda for ROCO In Concert: Fellow Travelers, our debut in one of the city’s most breathtaking spaces.
We’re excited to present the world premiere of Season 22 Composer-In-Residence Jessica Meyer’s As within, So without, while also welcoming back one of our favorite commissions, Marcus Karl Maroney’s Concerto for Chamber Orchestra. And rounding out a luminous weekend worth sharing are Arvo Pärt’s Fratres and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major 🎶

What a night! 🎬 Even after 101 years, the Phantom’s still got it 👻
Thank you for joining us last weekend at The River Oaks Theatre for ROCO Connections: From Silence to Sound! We had a blast with all of you, from gasps and giggles to thrills and chills.
Congratulations to conductor/composer Andrew Earle Simpson and our ROCO musicians on a tremendous world premiere of his electrifying new score to Rupert Julian’s 1925 classic The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney. Along with his arrangement of Carl Stalling’s score for Disney’s The Skeleton Dance, plus a "side dish" of Martinů’s La revue de cuisine, our ROCO musicians made it a night to remember!

Conductor/composer Andrew Earle Simpson leads a ROCO chamber ensemble in his new score for Rupert Julian’s 1925 horror classic The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney. The ghoulish fun continues with his new arrangement of Carl Stalling’s score for Disney’s The Skeleton Dance (1929)!
