One conversation changed the course of Dr. Erez Baruch’s career as a physician-scientist.
After he shared promising results from a clinical trial studying the use of f***l transplants in melanoma patients as a graduate student, he met our Dr. Jennifer Wargo, who called the work “game-changing science” for melanoma patients. She encouraged him to continue his training in Houston after he completed his Ph.D.
Today, Baruch is a faculty member at UT MD Anderson, where he continues to advance his research with the support of strong mentorship and resources that are only possible here.

Sometimes, donating blood or plasma at UT MD Anderson Blood Bank means a husband gets more time with his wife, or a mother with her child.
For Jerry Preston, it meant both.
His wife needed blood donations throughout her cancer treatment, and thanks to generous donors and her care team, she was able to watch her young son become a teenager.
Now, Jerry donates regularly at UT MD Anderson Blood Bank so other families can have more time with the people they love.

Losing bone density is common as people get older. It is also a possible side effect of cancer treatment.
There are a few ways to improve bone density, like increasing your calcium or getting more exercise, but it might not be possible for every cancer patient to lift weights or go for a run.
Biomedical engineer Gabriel Pagnotti is studying how a vibrating device could stimulate the cells in bones and improve their health.

Can a vibrating belt help protect bones and muscle health? More than 40 million adults in the U.S. ages 50 and older have osteopenia, or low bone density. An FDA-approved wearable vibration device is giving some women a tool that could slow that loss.
