Roebourne Arts Development Program

Four Cheeditha Art Group artists. One week. A whole lot of paint.

Last week, we welcomed Cheeditha Art Group artists Maisie Indji, Wendy Warrie, Kaye Warrie, and Sharon Warrie in Perth for an intensive 1-week painting workshop led by facilitator Kate Leslie.

Independent artist and artsworker Deanha Robinson also made the trip, deepening her practice and continuing to support the Cheeditha artists, from mixing paint and canvas prep to the SAM artwork database.

Three years in the making. Five artworks. Four towns along the mighty Murray.

We’re proud to have delivered the hashtag River Country Art Trail in collaboration with River Council - a series of large-scale silo murals and sculpture winding through Moama, Mathoura, Barham, and Moulamein in regional New South Wales.

Each work tells the story of the communities and landscapes that define this stretch of the Murray; from TWOONE’s water tower mural in Moama, inspired by Yorta Yorta culture and the white-faced heron, to Dulk’s vivid celebration of the Murray’s ecosystem in Mathoura, Gus Eagleton’s tribute to Barham’s pioneering history, and Heesco Khosnaran’s three-part portrait of Moulamein’s nature, agriculture and identity. Stuart Green’s monumental Big Spoon sculpture completes the trail with equal ambition.

Public art trails like this one do more than beautify a place. They build community pride, draw visitors to regions that rarely make the tourist map, and create long-term economic value for the people who call these towns home. Congratulations to the artists, the team at Murray River Council, and our team who brought this to life. Supported by the NSW Government through the Regional Tourism Activation Fund.
