Opening bottles of that favourite beer or cider🍻 with your teeth😬, grinding on hard ice as a pass time🧊🥶, chewing or biting into very hard bones or foods can all lead to a cracked tooth!!! 😲
Remember your teeth are not tools and can only resist a certain amount of force on them repeatedly before they give in in the long run!
the teeth you want to keep😉

Now how do we manage these bleeding gums ?🤔
Well management is diverse and depends on the root cause of your bleeding gums. Hence why it is always important to consult a dentist near you in order to unravel what exactly could be causing your gums to bleed.
A general overview however of management of bleeding gums includes :-
1. Using a SOFT bristled tooth brush 🪥 and brushing gently. Brushing technique is also very important but we will get into that in another segment.
2. Flossing once daily to ensure all plaque that builds up in between the teeth between meals is removed (Technique is also crucial so you don't injure your gums in the process).
3. Regular 6 monthly cleanings (scaling and polishing ) at the dentist as well as root planing for more severe cases of gum disease.
4. Use of an antibacterial mouthwash/rinse to minimize plaque formation that ultimately leads to bleeding gums or hydrogen peroxide rinse (visit your dentist to advise you on specific use of the latter rinse.)
5. Increase intake of foods that are rich in Vitamin C and K including citrus fruits eg oranges 🍊 , and vegetables such as spinach and lettuce🥬
6. Good oral hygiene i.e brushing twice a day helps avoid and reduce plaque formation and or accumulation which causes gums to bleed .
7. Warm salt water rinses (1/4 teaspoon of salt mixed in a glass of warm water)
8. Surgical or Periodontal measures such as pocket reduction surgery
If you are battling with bleeding gums today visit a dentist near you before its effects perpetuate into a more severe form of gum disease called periodontitis.
All this and more from a dentist that just truly cares ! 🤗

BAD BREATH - Also known as *Halitosis* has been coined to be one of the leading effects of calculus buildup!😷🤢
Once the teeth are not cleaned regularly by visiting your dentist *at least 6 monthly* and brushing twice daily, the bacteria in the mouth have a party with the remaining food substances that stick to your teeth after meals, producing a foul odour. Oh dear😓
The good news however is it can be prevented🙌👏 !:-
1. Brush your teeth twice daily and *don't forget to brush your tongue* especially the back where most bacteria resides using a tongue scraper or the back of your toothbrush.
2. *FLOSS* - Believe it or not 40% of your teeth surfaces still remain unclean after brushing only without flossing😮. You'll be surprised the amount of food substances that can get stuck in between your teeth causing bad breath!
3. Use an *alcohol free* mouth wash- Besides it's antibacterial and analgesic properties mouthwash leaves your mouth smelling fresh and clean after a good brush!
4. Hydrate - drink lots of water to prevent dry mouth 😷 and boost production of saliva by having sugar free candy. Water or saliva has a washing away effect and prevents halitosis
5. Visit your dentist 6 monthly for your routine cleanings!
