This salon was shaped in true collaboration with - a hairstylist with a strong, confident vision for her dream space and the courage to hold that vision all the way through the process.

From the beginning Tam knew exactly how she wanted her clients to feel the moment they walked in - calm, elevated, inspired and genuinely looked after.
Our role wasn’t to override that… it was to translate it into space, proportion, light, finishes and flow.

What made this project even more special for me is that I now get to experience the space the way it was intended - as a client.
Sitting in the chair, watching how the light moves through the room, how the layout works in real time, how the atmosphere supports both the stylist and the client - that is the true test of a design.

There is something deeply respectful about working with another creative who understands detail, mood and intention.
It becomes less about designing for someone and far more about designing with them.

Over the holidays, I had the joy of spending time and creating a room design for my pre-teen niece as she grows into her next chapter. Designing spaces for family is always something truly special.

MAIA Design Studio is looking for a motivated, detail-driven intern to join our design studio.

This is a paid internship with real exposure to live projects - not admin work, not coffee runs.

Requirements (non-negotiable):
• Strong AutoCAD skills
• Working knowledge of SketchUp
• Good eye for design and proportion
• Ability to follow drawings and instructions precisely
• Reliable, organised, and willing to learn

What you’ll get:
