*Herniated Disc & Sciatic Nerve Pain*
A herniated disc occurs when the soft inner material of a spinal disc pushes through a weakened or torn outer layer due to aging, injury, heavy lifting, or poor posture.
Many people say βI have a *slipped disc* ,β but in reality a disc does not actually slip out of place. What happens is that the disc bulges or herniates, and this bulge can press on nearby spinal nerves, especially those forming the sciatic nerve in the lower back.
*How it feels:*
-Sharp or burning lower back pain.
-Pain that shoots from the buttock down the thigh and leg.
-Tingling, numbness, or weakness in the leg or foot .
-Pain may worsen when sitting, bending, coughing, or lifting.
*How acupuncture helps* :
-Reduces inflammation around the compressed nerve.
-Relaxes tight muscles that increase nerve pressure.
-Improves blood circulation to support healing.
-Stimulates natural pain-relieving chemicals in the body.
-By reducing inflammation and muscle tension, acupuncture can relieve nerve pressure, reduce pain, and help the spine recover naturally.

What is Sciatica?
Sciatica is pain caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body. The pain typically starts in the lower back or buttock and travels down the back of the leg, sometimes reaching the foot.
*Causes of Sciatica*
Sciatica is not a disease it is a nerve symptom. Common causes include:
-Herniated (slipped) disc pressing on nerve roots.
-Degenerative disc disease.
-Spinal stenosis (narrowing of spinal canal.)
-Piriformis muscle spasm compressing the nerve.
-Sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
-Poor posture & prolonged sitting.
-Pregnancy-related pelvic changes.
-Inflammation around nerve roots.
*Symptoms of Sciatica*
Symptoms vary in intensity and pattern but commonly include:
-Sharp, shooting pain down one leg.
-Burning or electric-like sensations.
-Tingling or pins-and-needles.
-Numbness in the leg or foot.
-Muscle weakness.
-Pain worse with sitting, bending, coughing, or sneezing.
-Relief when lying flat or changing position.
β οΈ Sciatica usually affects one side of the body.
*How Acupuncture Treats Sciatica*
Acupuncture does not just mask pain it addresses root causes.
Acupuncture Helps By:
-Reducing nerve inflammation.
-Relaxing tight muscles compressing the nerve.
-Improving blood flow to damaged tissues.
-Calming overactive pain pathways.
-Restoring nerve communication.
-Supporting natural tissue healing.
-Balancing the nervous system (Qi regulation).
Over time, this leads to: β Reduced pain
β Improved mobility
β Better sleep
β Decreased reliance on pain medication.
*Who Is Supposed to Do Acupuncture Treatment?*
Acupuncture should be performed ONLY by a properly trained and licensed practitioner.
The Right Practitioner Is:
-A qualified Acupuncturist.
-Trained in anatomy, neurology, and safety.
-Skilled in treating spinal and nerve conditions.
