THE BAPTISM OF JESUS🤔
JOHN 1:31I myself did not know him,but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.We explained that water baptism is not a requirement for salvation and we also taught that the phrase “born of water” used by Jesus Christ does not mean water baptism.The water was symbolic of the Spirit,meaning the Spirit explains the water.The baptism of Jesus is one of the most difficult events for some believers.They often ask👉 "if John was baptizing people unto repentance,did Jesus need to repent🙆‍♀️?"Why did he Jesus allow John to baptize him?Hear this,John’s preaching about repentance was about the Jews changing their mind about God.They were to believe on the coming Messiah which is Christ Jesus.John also told them to produce fruit consistent with their change of mind.The message of John was to prepare the way for Christ's coming.He was to bear testimony about the light but he was not the true light.From our opening text,John emphatically revealed why he came baptizing with water.John’s baptism had a purpose and the purpose was to reveal,identify or introduce the Messiah to Israel.John said in John 1:30-31, “This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him,but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel”.Therefore,Jesus allowed himself to be baptized by John as a means of introducing him to the nation of Israel which was to fulfil all righteousness or what the prophets had said.This was fulfilled when the Spirit descended on Christ like a dove when he was immersed in the river and a voice from heaven spoke to affirm what John said about Christ as the lamb of God.This is what made John the Baptist the greatest prophet among all the Old Testament prophets.All other prophets spoke about Christ in a prophecy or mystery.However,it was John the Baptist who introduced Christ in a person.Therefore,the ministry of John baptizing people in water was a means of preparing the mind of the Jews through preaching repentance and introduce Jesus in person to Israel,clear🤷‍♀️.Say this with me,Jesus is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.Read John 1:29-34,Matthew 3:1-12,John 7:37-39.BE BLESSED FOREVERMORE
