Every child deserves to grow up safe, every woman deserves respect, and every survivor deserves justice. We call on families, communities, and authorities to speak up, take action, and protect the vulnerable.

March 12th is International Youth Day. On this special occasion of Youth Day 2025, we at the Youth Leadership and Empowerment Mission (YLEM) join the nation in celebrating the incredible potential, resilience, and creativity of young people across Zambia.

Under the inspiring theme, "Voices Amplified and Innovations Ignited," we reaffirm our commitment to empowering youth to be changemakers in their communities. As we amplify our voices, let us advocate for a future where every young person has access to quality education (SDG 4), decent work and economic opportunities (SDG 8), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), and strong partnerships (SDG 17) to drive sustainable development.

At YLEM, we believe in the power of youth-led innovation to advance climate action (SDG 13), gender equality (SDG 5), and sustainable communities (SDG 11). Together, let’s shape a brighter, more sustainable Zambia—one where youth are not just heard but actively leading the way!

According to the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats), a staggering 48% of our population is below the age of 14. Additionally, the 2021 World Development Index reports a youth unemployment rate of 26.1%. These statistics are a powerful reminder of the challenges and opportunities we face in nurturing and empowering the next generation.

At the Youth Leadership and Empowerment Mission (YLEM), we are committed to addressing these issues head-on. Our programs are designed to equip young people with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed. From educational initiatives to career development and social support systems, we strive to create a brighter future for Zambia's youth.

Education Crisis in Zambia: A Call to Action

Recent reports have revealed staggering statistics: 60% of the population lives below the poverty line, 30% of people aged 5+ have no formal education, and 12 million individuals are not in education. Learning Poverty in Zambia is significantly higher than the regional and income-group averages.

Moreover, teenage pregnancies are a major concern, with 12,330 cases in 2020, leading to 5,078 re-admissions at primary level and 2,876 at secondary level.

It's time to act! We need to address these pressing issues to ensure a brighter future for Zambia's children. Let's work together to improve access to quality education, reduce poverty, and empower communities.
