I’m reminded of my church sister’s boy, about 6–8 years old, who was so eager to tell me he had been watching our videos when I stopped by their home. He even remarked, 'how come your voice is different in person!' lol.
I asked him to share one episode he remembered, and to my amazement, he spoke about the “Say It Nicely” episode from the Polite Conversation Rules series. He recalled the “sandwich feedback method” I shared for giving negative feedback.
Today, I had a full-circle moment while in class at Rhema Bible Training Center. During the Marriage, Family & Ministry course, as we looked at communication in marriage, the instructor asked: “Suppose a spouse prepares an egg in a way their partner doesn’t enjoy; how should the partner communicate that?” Many perspectives were shared, but one response struck a chord with the instructor: “I would begin by appreciating my spouse for their thoughtfulness in making the meal, then…”
As I sat listening, I was reminded of the Yami Conversation Rules series and of Colossians 4:6: “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt…”
The heart of is to cultivate a culture of ownership and responsibility. And how powerful it is when this culture is nurtured from a tender age; that’s the heartbeat of .
