Happy World Hepatitis Day!

There is a lot of global stigma and discrimination that seems to culminate around person's living with blood-borne viruses like Hepatitis B or C and HIV both in the social and clinical setting.

These may include preconceptions that a person found with either of the blood-borne viruses may be sexually promiscuous. Such preconceptions are often fueled by lack of understanding and knowledge of transmission routes in Hepatitis. As a result of this, an irrational fear of being contagious and delaying to go to seek care sets in.

Stigma and discrimination like this leads to delay in healthcare and an increase in the disease rates. This makes it difficult for the disease to be controlled.

Hepatitis is a global health problem that usually comes with little or no symptoms. It is an inflammation of the liver and it cause severe liver disease and cancer.
