Zambia and the Global Green Growth Institute Sign Host Country Agreement to Accelerate Inclusive Green Growth
The Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ), represented by H.E. Andrew Banda, Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to the Republic of Korea, and accompanied by First Secretary Ms. Anastasia Muuka, today signed a Host Country Agreement (HCA) with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), represented by its Executive Director, Mr. Sanghyup Kim. The agreement reaffirms the parties’ shared commitment to advancing climate action and inclusive green growth in Zambia.
The HCA was signed during the GGGI Spring Annual Meeting, and it formalizes GGGI’s legal status in Zambia and strengthens the institutional framework for collaboration, supporting the Government of Zambia to deliver its climate and green growth priorities, including implementation of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
“This agreement is not only a commitment but a call to action. Its success will depend on effective implementation and strong collaboration among all stakeholders. Zambia stands ready to work closely with GGGI to ensure tangible results that improve the lives of our people.” — H.E. Andrew Banda, Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to the Republic of Korea
“GGGI recognizes that advancing Zambia’s climate priorities is essential to building an inclusive, sustainable economy. This partnership is an opportunity to accelerate green growth, deliver country-led solutions, and support Zambia’s transition to a low-carbon economy.” — Mr. Sanghyup Kim, Executive Director, Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)
Since 2022, GGGI has been working in close collaboration with Zambia, which became a Member State in July 2023. Since then, GGGI has worked with government counterparts across multiple ministries and agencies to support initiatives including the National Green Growth Index, the National Green Growth Strategy, carbon markets under Article 6, operationalization of an integrated Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (iMRV) system, capacity building, and the establishment of a Climate Finance Unit.
The HCA will enable the Government of Zambia and GGGI to strengthen joint planning and implementation of green growth initiatives and further enhance Zambia’s ability to mobilize climate and green finance.
GGGI Zambia is hosted by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment.
