As Sandra Kangwa walked out of the changing room and onto the sacred turf of the legendary Independence Stadium with the captain’s armband wrapped around her arm, the entire ZISD technical bench and her teammates rose to their feet in applause. Praise echoed across the corridor for a daughter of Makululu the second largest township in Africa.

For Sandra, this moment was years in the making. Injuries had slowed her journey. She had been released as a free agent by her former club, Green Eagles Women, and many would have thought the story ended there.

But on this day, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Sandra Kangwa stood tall and faced her former team with pride, courage, and purpose.
