KASUNE DEFENDS “KEEMBE IS NO GO AREA” MESSAGE AFTER CONCERNS DURING WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATIONS

During the International Women’s Day celebrations in Chibombo District, concerns were raised after the statement that “Keembe Constituency is a no-go area” sparked debate among residents and stakeholders.

However, Keembe Constituency Member of Parliament and Justice Minister, Princess Kasune, has defended the message, saying there is nothing wrong with it.

Speaking during a breakfast show on Keembe FM on Sunday morning, Kasune said the phrase “Keembe is a no-go area” should not be misinterpreted. She compared it to the slogan once used by the Patriotic Front, “Alebwelelapo,” adding that such statements are commonly used in political messaging.

The remarks follow an incident during the Women’s Day celebrations where Keembe Constituency Chairperson Harrison Kanyama allegedly harassed women and members of the media in Chibombo.

According to reports, a news crew from Keembe FM and women from the Maureen Mwanawasa Community Initiative were blocked from conducting interviews and displaying banners that did not carry messages supporting the area MP.

Kasune has not condemned the actions of Kanyama but instead suggested that Keembe FM should not have linked her to the chairperson’s conduct. She argued that the radio station should have focused on other activities from the Women’s Day event, including the speech she delivered.

The Justice Minister further indicated that she may consider legal action against Keembe FM for what she described as aligning her with the actions of the constituency chairperson.

The controversy has also drawn comparisons to the case of former Munir Zulu, who was previously jailed after making remarks suggesting that Eastern and Northern provinces would be “no-go areas” for people from Southern Province.
