President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to attend Paramount Chief Mpezeni's burial tomorrow, Local Government PS has confirmed.

ZIMBABWEAN EMBASSY IN ZAMBIA MOURN THE LATE MPEZENI.
Zimbabwe has joined Zambia in mourning the death of Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV of the Ngoni people, who died on May 30, 2026 in Lusaka.
Speaking to the media after signing the book of condolences at Ephendukeni Palace yesterday, Zimbabwe's Ambassador to Zambia Charity Charamba said Zambia has lost a great leader who worked tirelessly to promote African culture in the region.
Ms. Charamba said the passing of Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV is a great loss not only to Zambia but to the region as a whole, adding that Zimbabwe stands in mourning with Zambia during this difficult period.
She described the late traditional leader as a champion of peace, unity, and love whose leadership brought people together.
Ms. Charamba noted that Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV opened his doors to everyone and played a key role in promoting the Ncwala Traditional Ceremony, which attracted people from different backgrounds and walks of life.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Nicholas Phiri revealed that 85 percent of works at the burial site have been completed, with only final touches remaining as of yesterday.
Mr. Phiri said the funeral proceedings have been characterized by peace and unity and urged people to continue demonstrating the same spirit as a way of honouring Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV.
He has since cautioned both public and private media organisations to exercise caution and avoid conducting interviews with individuals who are not designated to speak on behalf of the Ngoni Royal Establishment.
BURIAL PREPARATIONS FOR LATE PARAMOUNT CHIEF MPEZENI ADVANCE AT EPHENDUKENI PALACE.
Preparations for the burial site of the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni are progressing at Ephendukeni Palace as mourners continue gathering to pay their final respects to the revered traditional leader.
Chief Mnukwa has expressed gratitude to the government for according the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni an official funeral, describing the gesture as a sign of respect and recognition of the late traditional leader's contribution to the country.
Chief Mnukwa said the Ngoni Royal Establishment and the government are now working together to clear the site and dig the grave, a process that was underway as of yesterday.
He said the works are likely to be completed within one or two days.
Meanwhile, Chief Madzimawe has given an update on the burial arrangements, stating that the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni will be laid to rest next to Ephendukeni Palace in accordance with Ngoni traditions.
Chief Madzimawe explained that, according to tradition, Paramount Chief Mpezeni comes from a kraal and therefore must be buried within his cattle kraal.
