DID YOU KNOW
The legend of the Easter bunny began in Pagan traditions, during the festival of Eostre the goddess of fertility and spring was celebrated. The rabbit was her animal symbol as they have long been associated with fertility thanks to their high reproduction rate.
The legend of the Easter bunny made its way into America during the 1700s when Germans immigrated to Pennsylvania. The egg laying bunny, “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws”, would lay colourful eggs as gifts for well behaved children, resulting in the tradition of making a nest for the bunny to deliver his treats. Children began leaving out carrots for the bunny in case he got hungry. As this tradition became widespread through out America the Easter bunny began expanding his delivery service to include other sweet treats such as chocolate and small toys.
