Woke Motswana (Pty) Ltd is excited to announce an opportunity for unemployed youth to apply for workplace-based opportunities through the National Youth Service (NYS) programme in partnership with YouthBuild South Africa.

We are looking for passionate young people who are ready to learn, grow and contribute within various areas including:

📌 Social Media and Content Creation
📌 Training and skills Development
📌 Production and sewing
📌 Community Liaison

Requirements:
📌South African citizen with valid ID
📌18-34 years
📌 Currently unemployed
📌Grade 12 minimum requirement
📌 Relevant qualifications where required
📌Not receiving NSFAS, stipends or participating in another funded programme.

The Journey Continues: Tsitsing Sewing Programme - Week 1 & 2 Update.

Over the past two weeks, Woke Motswana has had the privilege of implementing the Tsitsing Sewing Programme under the leadership of Kgosana Koketso Rakhudu, with a vision far greater than teaching people how to sew.

Our mission is simple yet Powerful: Building the South African Economy through Technical Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Development.

This programme is designed to empower unemployed women and youth with practical sewing skills, entrepreneurship development and workplace readiness. Creating pathways towards economic inclusion, self-employment and dignity.

Week one stated with an induction into the programme where participants completed registration forms, submitted required documentation and were introduced to the purpose and expectations of the programme. We believe that every successful journey starts with understanding, where you are going and why.

Participants then moved to machine safety and handling, learning the fundamentals of using sewing machines correctly and safely. This was followed by practical straight line sewing exercises where confidence started growing stitch by stitch.

Soon after participants proudly completed their first sewing project, a pin cushion. While this may seem like a small achievement, it represented something bigger: "The beginning of a journey of learning, growth and possibility.

The program then progressed to producing scatter cushion covers, allowing participants to apply newly acquired skills while developing attention to detail and workmanship.

One of the most exciting moments came when participants worked on a real life practical project by producing table cloths for the Tsitsing Lekgotla la Rakhudu Mother's day Celebration. Moving from classroom learning to practical application gave the participants exposure to what real production environment looks like.

As the programme continued into entrepreneurship and workplace readiness sessions, discussions shifted towards helping participants understand how skills can become businesses, income streams and opportunities for employment.

At Woke Motswana, we do not only want to produce people who know how to sew. We want to produce individuals who can create opportunities, build businesses, establish cooperatives and transform their lives, family and community.

Economic Inclusion is a Human Right, and through initiatives like these we continue building sustainable futures, one person at a time.
