Dementia cases to skyrocket in next 40 years!
In 2014, roughly five million adults had dementia, and that number is expected to skyrocket to 14 million by 2060 in the US alone. On a global scale, the World Health Organisation estimates there were 55 million individuals living with dementia in 2022, and most cases are likely to be caused by Alzheimer’s disease. A US study found that people who reported poorer sleep quality with more frequent sleeping disturbances and daytime drowsiness had greater biological indicators of Alzheimer's disease in their spinal fluid, placing them at a higher risk of dementia.
Furthermore, they observed that a bad diet, physical inactivity and smoking can drastically increase the odds of Alzheimer's and Dementia. Alzheimer's is a devastating illness that inflicts irreversible damage to the nerve and brain cells, resulting in falls, pneumonia, stroke, infections and even malnutrition, all of which can be fatal.
