The PSPPD’s core purpose is to improve evidence-based policy-making (EBPM) and implementation on poverty and inequality at national and provincial levels through a variety of learning and capacity-development tools, such as research grants, training events, workshops, conferences, and study tours. Together with the DPME’s complementary National Income Dynamics Study (NIDS), a panel study of income dynamics among South Africans, the PSPPD plays a central role in providing a more comprehensive, qualitatively- and quantitatively-informed evidence base for policy decisions-makers and critical role players within the policy framework.
