The official launch of National Science Month at the Vaal University of Technology brought together government, industry, academia, innovators, and the broader science community in a collective effort to promote science, technology, and innovation as drivers of national development.

The Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Nomalungelo Gina, highlighted the core mission of National Science Month: science is not only for the elite or a select few—it is for everyone. By making science more accessible and relatable, National Science Month aims to inspire curiosity, encourage participation, and demonstrate how science and innovation can improve lives and create opportunities for all South Africans.

The Technology Innovation Agency Board members and leadership were among the attendees, underscoring the Agency’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and impactful innovation ecosystem.

The launch also provided an opportunity for TIA-funded innovators to showcase their innovations and solutions. Agency representatives engaged with these innovators, gaining first hand insight into the transformative impact of innovation in addressing societal challenges, advancing industrial development, and contributing to economic growth.

TIA is excited to be part of the launch of the inaugural 2026 National Science Month (NSM), a month-long national programme taking place under the theme, “Science, technology and innovation are for everyone”.

NSM will be officially launched today by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Blade Nzimande. NSM is designed to showcase the critical role of science, technology and innovation in addressing the day-to-day needs of citizens and advancing South Africa’s socio-economic transformation.
