In March 2010 South Africa’s Department of Energy (DOE) finalised the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), a 20-year blueprint that showed the government’s commitment to energy from renewable sources. Under this plan the DOE committed to produce 8400MW from PV, 8400MW from Wind and 1000MW from CSP through the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP) which would be awarded piecemea
l in a number of rounds. Recognizing a niche market for the local design, manufacture & installation of solar mounting systems, PiA was formed in 2011 by a team of executives with a proven history of managing international companies and complex projects. PiA worked tirelessly to develop a fixed mounting system of an international standard and was rewarded by being selected as supplier & installer of the PIA FRS DP 6x2P fixed tilt system on the Round 1,75MW Kalkbult project. PiA went on to be awarded two additional installation projects in round 1, one tracker installation project in round 2 and is the preferred supplier and installer of an additional 90MW fixed tilt project in round 2. Outside of RIEPPP PiA is in advanced negotiations on numerous projects of various sizes throughout Africa.
