Telkom are actively switching off their customers with Analogue lines or adsl lines, Often these services are connected to a Pabx system of alarm equipment. We have been inundated with calls from customers who are offered a simple handset with a sim card to replace the main pabx incoming line. For obvious reasons this cannot work. Whilst new technology works better, the services are not ubiquitous, in most circumstances the customers are ill prepared and require serious hardware replacement. We have customers with faulty line equipment, down for more than a week whilst Telkom go through the motion of establishing whether it's feasible to replace the copper, or offer alternative services.
The good news is that we have competing service available at relatively short notice and will be able to offer a solution or technical advice.

Fibre is cheap in Phuket, R 150 for a 300M line, installation takes a few days, but it does come with a compromise, these wires can be found everywhere, and it gets particularly worse when you get to the city centre.
