The Santa Shoebox Project originated in Cape Town in 2006 with a humble 180 shoeboxes. 🎓The lesson has already started. The teacher says, "Write this down."
One child doesn't. She can't. There's nothing in her bag to write with. 💔

🖊 She borrows a pencil or a pen from a classmate when they’re done.
By the time she's caught up, the lesson has moved on. And so, a little more each day, she falls behind until catching up is no longer a possibility. 💔

This is why educational supplies are among the eight specified items in every Santa Shoebox. A child’s ability to participate in class shouldn't depend on what her family can afford. So, this month, buy the school stuff. Pencils. Pens. Crayons. Glue. A sharpener. An eraser. A ruler. Scissors. A watercolour paint set. Anything a child can use at school.

A complete Santa Shoebox costs around R500. 📣Buying one item a month, means the whole box comes together without the strain of doing it all at once.😅

Haven't started yet? You can still catch up. All you need is the toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, cloth - and your chosen educational item.

🚨Build the Box. Spread the Cost.🫰

Pledges open 1 September. Be ready.

Little Steps for Little Legs.💖🥰

This week at Reaiteka Pre-School, the floors went down and the front step was cast - and the step was made for someone who is three. 💖

A small child spends much of the day in a world that is too big. Taps are too high. Doors are too heavy. Steps are too steep. So, they wait to be lifted, helped, or carried.

This step teaches something different. It is low enough for little legs to manage alone, so the first thing a child does each morning, before they are even inside, is accomplish something all by themselves. 💪

Learning depends on a child being willing to try: to attempt the puzzle, risk the wrong answer, raise their hand. And a child only tries when they believe they can. "I did it myself" at the front step becomes "I'll try" on the mat inside. Teachers call it school readiness. 📣 It starts this small.

Reaiteka is becoming a place where every day begins with "I can" - and that's where learning begins too. 🎓🎒

This is build eight for SSP Legacy, made possible with Breadline Africa, the Centre for Early Childhood Development, Kathu Solar Park and the Maruping community.
