SUPSA and Surfing South Africa are pleased to announce that the following events have been confirmed as Sanctioned Events for Stand Up Paddleboard Racing and Surfing for 2019
The National Sanctioned Events Series are the competitive events from which the Annual Rankings are compiled to determine the South African Stand Up Paddle boarding Champions in the following disciplines: Racing, Surfing, Downwind Racing and Overall Champion.
Trophies are awarded annually to the winners in each discipline the Open Men and Women, Junior Boys and Girls ( U18), Legends and Diva’s ( O45) Age Divisions.
In addition the National rankings are used as one of the selection criteria when selecting the South African National Team to compete at the annual ISA World Stand Up Paddle boarding And Paddle boarding Championships. Last year, Tarryn King from Cape Town became South Africa’s first SUP World Champion after winning the 200m Sprint Gold Medal at the event held in Wanning China.
This year’s Race Series kicks off with one of the most popular events on the annual calendar, the Signature Century City SUP Challenge being held at Century City in Cape Town on Sunday 3 March 2019. A 10km flatwater race will be held on the canals around Intaka Island for competitive athletes, along with various social fun races for all types of boards which promise loads of fun and great prizes for the whole family regardless of their level of experience.

Today the South African Team head home with great pride. 15 days ago we left South Africa with great determination and focus to do well at the ISA World Championships. I can say that we definitely succeeded in doing that and more.
As the Team manager I am extremely proud to be part of such a focused, committed and dedicated team. Every single athlete, coach and behind the scenes SUP community member got this Team to excel on every level.
Thank you to all those who helped us train and get us to achieve the results we achieved. We come home with one gold medal, one bronze medal and one Copper Medal.
As a country we are now officially ranked 9th in the world which is two positions higher on last year and we aim to keep moving up.
What a journey and what an honour to represent our country and thank you to everyone who helped get us there.
