Three’s Company 242, sponsored by Dormehl Phalane Howick, J Leslie Smith and Oakleigh Funeral Homes, was held at Howick Bowling Club on Friday, 8 May 2026.

A stunning Autumn afternoon provided the perfect setting for a day of brilliant bowls, with plenty of quality play and close encounters throughout the tournament.

The surprise package of the day was Gerry Smal and Pat Bennet, who led the competition at the halfway stage and kept the pressure on the more fancied teams.

Traditionally played over 10 ends on either side of tea, this months event was extended to 12 ends, which meant the final few ends were contested in drastically fading light, adding even more tension to several tight finishes.

The tournament was eventually won by husband-and-wife combination Jack & Ann Allan, with father-and-son pairing Mark & Jordan Taylor finishing runners-up. Frans Brooks & Stephanie Crause claimed third spot, while the Plate Prize went to Olwen Gibbs and Rowena Muir.

A wonderful afternoon of bowls and fellowship enjoyed by all.

The Inaugural Clive Keppler Fours was proudly hosted at Howick Bowling Club on Sunday, 12 April, with generous sponsorship from Howick Mirror & Glass.

A full house saw two greens of competitive fours action. The day began under a light drizzle but soon turned into beautiful sunshine, setting the stage for a fantastic day of bowls.

After a series of hard-fought matches, the competition came down to a nail-biting finish. Emerging victorious and claiming the R4000 first prize were Bradley Robinson, Brandon Nel, Clint Nortje, and Calsey Hollis.

Runners-up honours went to Craig Booth, Peter Nicholas, Vanessa Francis, and Lyle Evans, while third place was secured by a special family team spanning three generations – Hennie Heyns, Erika Heyns, Quinton Heyns, and Roarke Heyns.

Session prizes, kindly part-sponsored by Fairfield Dairy, added to the excitement throughout the day.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers whose efforts ensured the success of the event. Special appreciation to the Keppler sons and Howick Mirror & Glass for continuing the legacy of the late Clive Keppler, a valued member of the club.

Proceeds from the day will go towards the ongoing growth of the club, with a particular focus on developing Junior Bowls – a cause close to Clive’s heart
