đź’™ May 14th is Apraxia Awareness Day đź’™

Apraxia is a neurological motor planning disorder that affects a person’s ability to carry out purposeful movements—including speech, gestures, and even actions like pointing or writing.

We call this the brain - body disconnect
Many nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking individuals have multiple forms of apraxia that impact their ability to use their bodies the way they want to. That doesn't mean they don't understand—it means they need motor supports, not cognitive remediation.

At I-ASC, we champion Spelling to Communicate (S2C)—a method that supports individuals in overcoming motor challenges by teaching them to point to letters to spell their thoughts.

🧠 Apraxia can make movement unreliable, but it does not affect intelligence.
🗣️ S2C is based on the belief that motor is the issue—not the mind.
đź’¬ Everyone deserves access to communication, regardless of how their body moves.
