Character Confessions

🎲 What is a Play-by-Post (PbP) D&D Game?

Play-by-Post is a way to play Dungeons & Dragons (or any tabletop RPG) using written messages instead of in-person or voice chat sessions. It’s a slow-paced, text-based style of play that happens over forums, Discord, Reddit, or email.

📬 How Does It Work?

Players and the Dungeon Master (DM) take turns writing messages to tell the story.

Posts describe:
◉ Your character’s actions
◉ Roleplaying conversations
◉ Combat moves
◉ Reactions and thoughts

Unlike live games, PbP is asynchronous - you post when you have time. Most players post daily or a few times per week, but the pace depends on the group.

🧙 Example:
Let’s say your character is a rogue named Tamsin sneaking into a castle:

Player Post:

Tamsin presses herself against the stone wall, eyes scanning the dim corridor ahead. She checks for traps near the doorway and slowly inches forward, dagger in hand.

DM Response:

The corridor is silent. As you inspect the floor, you spot a nearly invisible wire stretched across the entrance—definitely a trap. You manage to disarm it with a swift flick of your dagger. Beyond the doorway, a faint glow suggests someone—or something—is awake.
