Growing knowledge. Strengthening communities. Shaping policy.

Today, our Food Justice team and youth leads are participating in the Food and Microbiota in Africa (FAMA) Workshop, expanding their knowledge on the vital connection between food, health, biodiversity, and indigenous food systems.

For us, food justice is about more than access to nutritious food, it’s about recognising and protecting local food knowledge, amplifying community voices, and ensuring that policy reflects the wisdom and lived experiences of the people who have sustained these systems for generations.

By investing in the leadership of young people, we’re building a generation that can bridge science, community knowledge, and advocacy to create healthier, more just, and climate-resilient food systems across Africa.

The future of food is local. The future of food is just. 🌍💚

🇰🇪87 young changemakers. One room. Endless possibilities.

In Kisumu, we gathered 87 passionate young people determined to reimagine the future of their communities. Through our Just Transition Innovation Lab, they explored solutions to challenges around ⚡ electricity access, ♻️ waste management, 🍽️ food systems, 🚺 gender equality, and 🩺 health.

What inspired us most was discovering the many young warriors already leading projects in their schools and communities, proving that change is not something they are waiting for, it’s something they are creating.

From bold ideas to practical solutions, the energy in the room reminded us that young people are not the leaders of tomorrow; they are leading today.

As we close our final Innovation Lab of this regional journey, our hearts are full of hope and possibility. Next stop: Msambweni, where we will dive into marine-focused innovation and explore how young people are protecting our oceans, coastlines, and blue economies.

The future is already here and it looks brave, innovative, and youth-led. 💚 we are grateful to for helping us coordinate this day 🫶🏾

CLEAN ENERGY PROJECT ✨

On the 23rd, the Energy & Clean Air leads led by had a full-day advocacy and innovation session with brave girls, a space of learning, healing, creativity, and problem-solving. 💚

We started the morning with body movement and self-development activities focused on “My Body.” The girls painted outlines of their bodies and engaged in meaningful conversations about the importance of each body part, body awareness, dignity, and understanding safe and unsafe touch. It was a powerful reminder that climate justice work must also center healing, confidence, and self-awareness.

In the afternoon, we shifted into innovation and environmental advocacy. Together, the girls identified key environmental challenges affecting their communities and worked in groups to brainstorm and present possible solutions.

What stood out most was the creativity, courage, and leadership the girls brought into the space. The future of clean energy and community change is already here, and it looks like young girls leading with vision and care.
