Your system loads that active data into RAM so the CPU can access it instantly. The more RAM you have, the more your system can actively juggle at once without slowing down.

⚡ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀 𝗗𝗗𝗥 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿?

DDR stands for 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲.

You’ve probably seen:

▸DDR3
▸DDR4
▸DDR5

Each generation improves:

▸Speed
▸Efficiency
▸Bandwidth
▸Power consumption

DDR4 is still common.
DDR5 is the current standard in newer systems.

Important, you cannot mix DDR types. To prevent incompatibility issues the key notches in each DDR generation are located in different positions on the stick of RAM. A DDR4 motherboard cannot use DDR5 RAM.

That number refers to how many data cycles per second the memory can perform in megahertz, 1MHz equals 1 million cycles.

But speed is not everything. Latency also matters, which refers to how quickly the RAM responds to a request.

The balance between speed and latency determines real-world performance.

This is important and often overlooked.

If you install:

▸1 stick of 16GB RAM, that’s single channel
▸2 sticks of 8GB RAM, that’s dual channel

Dual channel allows the CPU to communicate with two memory sticks simultaneously.

The result:

▸Higher memory bandwidth
▸Better performance
▸Especially noticeable in gaming and integrated graphics systems

In simple terms, two sticks are often better than one, even if total capacity is the same.
