PLATFORMING AFRICAN DESIGN: A STORE CALLED AAFRICAA.

It has been a long-held dream of PLATFORM founders Laurence Brick and Cathy O’Clery to see the establishment of a game-changing, globally significant retail platform for contemporary African design.

Conceptualising and curating the AAFRICAA store – a luxury lifestyle emporium set in the beautiful heritage district of Cape Town’s vibrant V&A Waterfront neighbourhood, and anchor tenant of the new-look Alfred Mall – is that dream come true!

Overlooking the water, with spectacular views of Table Mountain, AAFRICAA (pronounced 'Africa') is the place where great in-house collections, ever-evolving exhibitions and new collaborations will continually be explored, in celebration of the creative energy of our magnificent continent.

We enjoyed every moment searching for and working with the best of contemporary African designers, crafters and artisans across the continent to source unique fashion, jewellery, accessories and homeware.

And we couldn’t have done this without our PLATFORM team and committed AAFRICAA co-founders Jonathan and Farryn Zuckerman, our longstanding partnership with the AAFRICAA store designers and our brand design team

PLATFORMING VALUES: HERITAGE WEEK TEAM ACTIVATION WITH THE FOSCHINI GROUP

For Heritage Week in September 2022 The Foschini Group partnered with PLATFORM to conceptualise an effective experiential activation for TFG staffers to celebrate their heritage while raising awareness of sustainable habits like ditching plastic bags in favour of reusable shoppers.

PLATFORM approached Durban illustrator to design a series of contemporary images to be printed onto shopping bags and sold to TFG team members for a nominal R20 each.

The bags were produced locally by The Foschini Group's merchandise supply chain and the proceeds of sales were donated to support emerging young creatives.

The bags sold out.
