Snapshot of a Maths study session:

Sometimes seeing a Maths problem is overwhelming because you don't know where to start. This was a section on Area and Perimeter. We used a whiteboard to draw the problem and add details to it while we spoke through the sum. This was so helpful to her and she was able to find the solution.

Even though she understood the Maths concept needed, she needed to plan and organise her thoughts and visualise the details. Using the whiteboard, with different colours, talking through it, and working systematically, were the steps that we used to work through the process successfully.

Using strategies like these can reduce overwhelm and develop further understanding, particularly in Maths.
