Hackers linger in networks after a breach, gathering as much sensitive data as possible.
This is evident after the Transunion hack.
Sadly this "extortion" is not only limited to Transunion but also to the clients involved, as the hackers expect the parties involved to pay up if they don't want their data to be leaked.
It's not just data; personal information is a gold pot for hackers and fraudsters. Possible implications could be increased identity theft and targeting of smaller Financial firms and other firms with high profile information for extortion.
