When it comes to longevity, there is no perfect workout. The most effective form of exercise is the one that becomes part of your lifestyle, whether that's walking, swimming, cycling, strength training, dancing or yoga.

Research consistently shows that regular physical activity helps reduce the risk of chronic disease, supports brain health, maintains muscle strength, improves mobility and enhances quality of life as we age.

The goal isn't perfection. It's consistency.

Start where you are. Move in ways you enjoy. Build habits that last.

Because longevity isn't about doing more for a week, it's about doing something for years.

Prediabetes is a condition in which blood glucose levels are elevated above normal but not high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. Key risk factors include excess body weight, being over 45 years of age, a family history of type 2 diabetes and a history of gestational diabetes.

A study published in JAMA found that structured lifestyle interventions may be more effective than metformin alone in reducing progression to type 2 diabetes and lowering the risk of developing multiple chronic conditions over time.

These findings highlight the importance of sustained lifestyle changes, such as improved nutrition, regular physical activity and weight management, as a foundational approach to long-term metabolic health and disease prevention.

In this clip from Episode 29 of the Innersight Podcast, dermatologist Dr. Barbara van der Westhuizen shares practical insights into the different types of skin cancer, how to recognize suspicious lesions and why regular skin screenings are so important.

Key topics discussed include:
☑️ The difference between melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers
☑️ Why melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer
☑️ The ABCDE warning signs of melanoma
☑️ Amelanotic and acral melanomas that are often missed
☑️ How dermoscopy helps detect skin cancer earlier
☑️ Signs and symptoms of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
☑️ The role of chronic sun exposure in skin cancer development
☑️ Why skin screenings and mole mapping can save lives

One of the most important takeaways? Many melanomas develop as entirely new lesions rather than from existing moles, making regular skin checks essential.

Whether you're concerned about a changing mole, want to better understand your skin cancer risk or simply want to learn how to protect your health, this discussion highlights key information that can help you recognize warning signs and make informed decisions about your skin health.
