Performance & Innovation

The optional Sports Chrono Package Turbo enhances the driving experience even further, featuring an over boost function that temporarily increases torque by an additional 60 Nm (45 lb-ft) delivering thrilling bursts of acceleration on demand.

Originally, there was considerable enthusiasm for installing a 320 bhp engine into the Mercedes-Benz W201 chassis. However, this concept was quickly abandoned as four-wheel-drive systems became widespread and the highly specialized Group B cars began to dominate the competition landscape.

Despite the absence of a formal factory-backed racing program, Mercedes-Benz continued development, shifting focus toward a Group A version of the 190 E.

Unlike Group B, which required the production of just 200 units within a 12-month period, Group A regulations mandated a significantly higher homologation threshold of 5,000 cars. This category became both the accessible entry point for rallying and the premier class for touring car competition.

The Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16 made its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1983, with production commencing approximately one year later.

Ferrari 328 GTS / GTB – Evolution of a Classic

The Ferrari 328 GTS and Ferrari 328 GTB succeeded the Ferrari 308 GTS, retaining much of its proven mechanical foundation while introducing notable advancements in design, chassis, and performance.

At the heart of the 328 was the latest evolution of Ferrari’s transversely mid-mounted Dino V8 engine, now enlarged to 3.2 litres. This upgraded power unit delivered an impressive 270 horsepower and 231 lb-ft (313 Nm) of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0–60 mph in just 5.9 seconds.

Power was delivered through a classic gated five-speed manual transmission, enhanced by a hydraulically operated clutch system, offering a more refined and responsive driving experience.

The GTS variant featured a detachable hardtop (targa-style roof), distinguishing it from the fixed-roof GTB. Ferrari also explored a fully retractable soft-top convertible, although this remained at the prototype stage.

In the latter part of the 1988 model year, Ferrari introduced a significant mechanical upgrade with the addition of an anti-lock braking system (ABS). This improvement required:

Revised suspension geometry
New convex wheel design (replacing the earlier concave style)
Addition of Cavallino Rampante (prancing horse) emblems on the side mirrors

By 1989, ABS became standard across all models, marking the final production year of the 328 series.
