Municipal Financial Year-End Closures – City of Johannesburg & City of Ekurhuleni

Dear Valued Client,

Please be advised that the City of Johannesburg and the City of Ekurhuleni are currently undergoing their annual financial year-end processes.

City of Johannesburg commenced its financial year-end closure on 26 June 2026.
City of Ekurhuleni will commence its financial year-end closure on 30 June 2026.

During this period, both municipalities will be operating with limited system availability and reduced processing capacity. As a result, the processing of municipal applications and requests may be significantly delayed.

The financial year-end closure is expected to affect, amongst others:

Rates Clearance Applications;
Rates Clearance Figures;
Rates Clearance Certificates;
Municipal account updates and adjustments;
Clearance-related queries; and
General municipal turnaround times.

Unfortunately, these delays are beyond the control of Hammond Pole Attorneys and are dependent on the municipalities resuming normal operations.

Our Conveyancing Department will continue to submit applications, follow up regularly with the relevant municipal departments and do everything reasonably possible to minimise delays. However, we kindly request your patience and understanding during this period.

Please expect delays in the issuing of municipal figures and certificates, as turnaround times are likely to be longer than usual.
