The Verna Douglas Fund, established in 2022 in honor of the compassionate former principal of Barrouallie Secondary School, aims to support students in need with a $500.00 scholarship, thereby fostering her legacy of helping the vulnerable. Named after Verna Douglas, who passed away at the age of 87 on December 3, 2021, the fund was fueled by contributions from individuals such as Gideon Nash, Ulric McDowall, Vernon Cooper McDowall, Idris Williams, and her daughters Michelle and Frauline Douglas, reflecting the community's respect for her lifelong dedication to service. Since its inception, the fund has awarded scholarships to 20 students, thus far. On August 11th, 2025, Adrian Charles, Shanice Peters, Esronique Jack, Ojahey Loraine, and Jaylaine Joseph were the recipients of this year's Scholarship fund, all attending the Barrouallie Secondary School, which is the only criteria needed to be a candidate for the scholarship. Reflecting Verna Douglas's lifelong commitment to uplifting the community and nurturing the next generation.
