Galley Gal has been busy this morning making ALOO (potato) PIE!🇹🇹
A classic Caribbean ‘fast food’ from Indo-Trinidadian origin.

An aloo pie is a pastry filled with seasoned mashed potatoes (garlic onion Caribbean ‘flava peppers’ cumin salt hot peppers) and then fried. It is therefore similar to samosas, but at 10-15 cm in length it is significantly larger, and it does not have a triangular basic shape, but resembles a Cornish pasty.

There is no right or wrong way to eat these. You can eat them on their own whilst on-the-go, slice them open lengthwise and stuff them full of a Chana Curry topped with mango, hot sauce and all that your palate would care to enjoy, or a combination like we did, serving the fixin’s on the side. Or be CRAZY and add some cooked chicken or ground beef for an even more filling meal.

This is my first attempt at making aloo pie but certainly won’t be the last!!
