On Common Ground is a nonprofit group focusing on equine-assisted psychotherapy services designed to help people suffering from addiction, mental illness, and many other issues. Experts have long acknowledged the therapeutic value of humans interacting with animals. Horses in particular have
been known to be greatly helpful in assisting people with human development and mental health needs. Equine-assisted psychotherapy services are experiential treatments that have been proven to bring positive results among patients with severe conditions, or those who are not responding to conventional therapy. Treatment occurs in the nontraditional environment of a rural farm. Stables and other buildings throughout a multi-acre property are a welcome departure from clinical, office-type environments typically associated with professional treatment. On Common Ground offers several different formats of equine-assisted psychotherapy, including services for individuals, groups, and pre-planned weekend retreats. On Common Ground has already formed important alliances with the judicial, law enforcement, and other equine-related organizations. Now, founders Tracy and Sher Young have taken this uplifting and promising method of treatment and put it at the core of On Common Ground. Their new effort comes at a time when so many people are in need of help. We know there are many experiential psychotherapy programs. Our program is unique because of the vision of our founders, Tracy and Sher Young. We are currently looking for supporters who can assist us with property, the purchase of a truck and horse trailer, and tack required for our therapeutic horses. Other supplies for horses would be greatly appreciated.
