With a background in carpentry and furniture design, Trevor builds his work with exquisite attention to detail. His recent pieces employ new techniques that expand on the illusionistic quality of his earlier work. Floor to Sky confuses perspective with false painted shadows, shallow carving, and woodgrain veneer applied directionally. Others in the collection further incorporate meticulously painted color gradients. These deceptive pieces are some of my favorites to install. They encourage close observation, delightful
conversation, and the occasional friendly argument over what is real and what is not.

Sarah’s paintings have a unique language, stylized but remarkably honest, each with its own distinct story to tell. When I first visited her studio in Stockton Springs several years ago (my first trip to that area) I was delighted to find that the shapes of light, land, and clouds in Penobscot Bay matched her paintings exactly. In White Roses I love the push and pull between flattened and receding space, and the playful patterning of flowers that belies their considered arrangement. Sarah is a master at conveying a lot with a little and she and her work are very similar; thoughtful, serene, precise, and so very lovely to spend time with.
