In 1973, Dan Goldman traveled throughout Europe and the Middle East experiencing specialty coffees and brewing methods unlike
those found in the USA. While Americans were satisfied with drinking brand name coffees without knowing what was inside the can, the Europeans demanded freshly roasted coffees from identified points of origin. In the mid 80’s, Good as Gold sold its coffees at Spag’s in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Spag’s was considered an early pioneer of discount retailing and because of the opportunity that Spag and Olive Borgatti gave to Dan Goldman, Good As Gold was able to showcase its coffees and build loyal customers throughout the United States. Recognizing the need to mate the best coffees with the latest technologies to create a consistently delicious brew, Good As Gold started offering high quality varietal and estate coffees to its customers along with the newest coffee brewing systems outfitted with top of the line water filtration systems. This combination allowed Good As Gold to be one of the first companies in the United States to introduce the best tasting coffees at work, at the finest restaurants and at home.
