real camera in my funny, pre-teen hands. the camera was one with changing lenses, an "f-stop" and other things that confused me at the time, but as i learned:



A LITTLE BIT OF PLAY TRULY GOES A LONG WAY





you're given as much direction as needed to feel like you know what you're doing in front of my camera - 100%. i practiced taking pictures at recess, in the halls, and after school; and channelled my inner bossy into something more productive than putting my little brother to work. it wasn't that long before the camera and i became synonymous among my family and friends. it's definitely awesome to be known for something (especially when it's good), but what's more interesting is how that camera has taught me to have fun in the process of "figuring myself out". how to play with it and enjoy it. and now I have the privilege and responsibility to extend that joy outward and onward. in front of the camera we've told our truths and we've told stories; about ourselves and the people we're becoming, becoming, and becoming.
