Consumer confidence improved in June, but households are still feeling the pressure.

The University of Michigan’s final June consumer sentiment reading rose to 49.5, up from 44.8 in May. That’s a meaningful month-over-month rebound, helped in part by moderating gas prices.

Still, sentiment remains well below last year’s 60.7 reading, and cost-of-living concerns continue to weigh on many households.

For housing, this may suggest buyer confidence is stabilizing somewhat, but affordability remains a major part of the conversation. Mortgage payments, monthly budgets, insurance, taxes, and association dues all still matter.

Simple takeaway: better than May, but not yet strong.
