Summer can be a wonderful time for connection, creativity, and gentle confidence-building. โ๏ธ
For children with selective mutism, play can be a powerful way to communicate without pressure. Drawing, pointing, creating, smiling, observing, and joining in quietly are all meaningful ways kids can participate while they warm up.
Not every step has to be spoken to count.
Sometimes progress looks like showing up, staying nearby, trying something new, or feeling safe enough to engage in their own way.
Letโs give kids the space to express themselves this summer, with patience, support, and understanding. ๐

Extracurricular activities can be powerful opportunities for children and teens with selective mutism to build confidence, practice brave behaviors, and connect with others outside of school. ๐
Whether itโs art, music, sports, robotics, theater, or another interest, the goal isnโt perfection or immediate participation. The goal is gradual growth in a supportive environment where kids can warm up, try small steps, and feel proud of their progress.
With patience, planning, and encouragement, extracurricular activities can help children expand their comfort zones while building resilience, independence, and a stronger sense of belonging.
Small steps count. Always. ๐
