Today as we start this morning in this beautiful state of ours, we ask you to take a few minutes for the warriors who lost their lives while trying to protect ours! Our state is in trouble and we ask you to please be mindful of your choices and help where you can.

Today, we join the wildland fire community in mourning the loss of three firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to the Knowles Fire in western Colorado this past Saturday, June 27th.

We honor:

🟣 Emily Barker, 38, of Clinton Township, Michigan
U.S. Forest Service – Rifle Helitack

🟣 Nick Hutcherson, 27, of Glendale, Arizona
U.S. Forest Service – Kaibab National Forest

🟣 Sydney Watson, 27, of Warrior, Alabama
U.S. Wildland Fire Service – Rifle Helitack

These firefighters were engaged in initial attack operations when the incident occurred. Two additional firefighters were injured and continue to receive medical care.

Our hearts are with their families, friends, crewmates, and everyone across the wildland fire community who is grieving this unimaginable loss. We also keep the injured firefighters and all those affected in our thoughts as they recover.

Every firefighter understands that serving others carries risk, but that knowledge never makes a loss like this any easier. Today, we pause to honor three individuals who answered the call to protect lives, communities, and our public lands.
