The TomSchoolery Homeschool Group visited the Barrow County Museum today to learn about how children learned to read and write during pioneer days. They also learned hands-on how letters were written with quill and ink, folded and mailed as Judy Ann Eicher, a museum volunteer who is also a Fort Yargo Living History Society member, shared her knowledge.
The group also heard several stories from the area's early history adapted by retired education professional Lynn Hammond and read by museum volunteer Lorn Burkhammer.
A museum tour included a step inside a jail cell where Lorn Burkhammer stressed such confinement is not a desired living arrangement.
