Yes, we drew these details. A common misconception about interior architecture and design is we don’t draw, just pick out materials, finishes, and selections. In fact, we did a whole set of interior architecture plans for this project because that’s how we convey the design intent. Construction wrapping up soon!

One of the craziest requests I had was when I client asked for a custom waterbed. Yes, a waterbed. A waterbed, in case you didn’t know weighs about 1600lbs. I measured the water bladder (yes, you read that right), looked up the manufacture and did some research. And then got designing. We drew this in CAD, and then did life size print outs to make sure. I wanted to create tension, and make the bed feel like it was floating. So some heavy duty steel was involved. And a custom woodworker to clad the surround. We paired this with a custom media cabinet and fun rug. Voila. Swipe for a few more pics from this contemporary vibe house.

Sometimes I get so caught up in projects and life that I forget I need to celebrate moments we actually win something! Like this award for a fabulous house we finished. Was a hell of a party and very thankful for great clients and great projects. Not the whole team shown, certainly more people behind the scenes make this happen.

The good stuff isn’t found online. It’s found by discovery. It’s having a vision and being surprised and delighted at the same time. Sometimes a piece carries a room and other times it’s the mix. I’m here for both.

I had a conversation yesterday with a client comparing interior architecture with musical composition. There are certain notes that carry the space, there are certain details that allow the space to sing and together these engage the senses.
It was intriguing to hear the similarities. This is why some spaces feel inviting, engaging and pleasant, while others are a barrage on the senses. It’s not just doors, walls, trim and furniture - it’s HOW they are played together. Like a beautiful composed piece.
Swipe to see how those “notes” where before we got involved and after.

It’s magic. Oh wait, it’s careful planning, sketching, drawing, selections, more drawings, budgeting, analyzing, reviewing and refining to arrive here. Swipe for the before (yes it’s that bad). And my favorite part? The bathroom is the same size…same size. But we made it feel more expansive. How? A good ol’ interior trick that had roots in Asian (seriously).

Buffalo hide headboard anyone? It adds so much texture and drama to the room and I love the contrast paired with a copper lamp. We painted the walls rich taupe and layered in a burgundy mauve rug, for a sensual and lush feeling. The bedding provides contrast and a pop of color with the satin orange tiger pillow (yes, zoom in and you’ll see). A sexy bedroom for sure.

This client openly admitted they are detailed and particular. I’m always up for a challenge…so we embarked. Sconces placed centered in the tile, flat panel with recessed hardware for cabinets, more apron to the counter (I always think 1 1/8” is too skinny), and barely there window trim so the tile lines cleanly. This isn’t just picking finishes and handing to a builder. It’s about thoughtful, intentional design. Swipe for the drawings that make it come together.
Every project starts with a dream. The dream the client has and the idea of the life they want to create. We listen, ask questions and blend that with reality. What is reality? Constraints of the home, budget, timelines, construction feasibility. We are thinking about all of that behind the scenes, weighing and analyzing to consider possibilities of design.
This is a peek into that process. Phase one.

Onward and upward! We bought a building and will have a permanent home!
We have moved offices four times in seven years and this one (pictured) will be our last. I am excited to create an office that represents us, represents American artisans and is a testament to the collected nature we bring to projects. Here’s to the home stretch….oh and future renovation of our office. More to come!
