🌹 A Legacy in Bloom
Designed over 150 years ago by the renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Delaware Park was envisioned to “refresh and delight the eye, and through the eye, mind and spirit.” Today, its beloved Rose Garden — with its pergola and 33 meticulously planted beds — continues that mission, showcasing exquisite rose varieties from the All-America Rose Selections.
Chadsworth Columns is honored to have contributed to the preservation of this historic landmark, where history, design, and nature continue to inspire.
“All the parts together may convey a sweet harmony to the eyes of the beholders, and each separately may serve agreeably to the use for which it shall be appointed.”

✨ “Public architecture ennobles collective life.”
The Ionic portico, Blondel’s monumental fountain, and the measured geometry of the Comédie-Française each testify that civic design is not only functional but symbolic.
Jacques-François Blondel, in his Cours d’architecture (1771–77, vol. II, p. 243), emphasized that fountains were more than urban conveniences: they were stages of civic virtue. His monumental fountain designs combined rusticated bases with classically ordered superstructures—columns, pediments, and sculptural ornament—uniting the necessity of water with the dignity of architecture. In these works, the fountain became both a public utility and a symbol of collective pride, anchoring city life with rhythm, proportion, and display.
As Alberti observed in The Ten Books of Architecture (1755 Leoni ed., VI.2), architecture is the “public face of virtue.” Whether framing water, procession, or theater, these classical compositions remind us that proportion and dignity transform necessity into civic pride.
