In recognition of Elder Abuse Awareness Month and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we are partnering with Johnson County Aging & Human Services and other local organizations for a free community presentation on durable powers of attorney and protecting older Kansans from financial exploitation.

Join us in person on Thursday, June 18, from 1–4:30 p.m. at the Sunset Drive Office Building in Olathe (Rooms 1070/1075) to Learn About DPOAs and Financial Exploitation. Presenters will explain how durable powers of attorney work, why they matter and how to use them to help safeguard your finances as you age.

This event is open to older adults, caregivers, family members and anyone who wants to better understand how to prevent elder financial abuse in our community.

In partnership with Kansas Legal Services, Inc. , Kansas Attorney General, Kansas Insurance Department , Senior Resource Center - SRC, Fidelity Bank and regional area agencies on aging and disabilities, these presentations will take place statewide over the next two weeks – and, new this year, virtually as well.

Yesterday we joined our friends at Beyond The Call WFD and the City of Wichita- Fire Department to celebrate a new investment in firefighter health and wellness. This donation ensures that every Wichita firefighter will receive a year’s supply of Firemen’s Friend detox soap, with additional funding supporting cancer screenings and expanded production so more crews can access this mission-critical protection.

Firefighters run toward emergencies to keep our families safe. Caring for their long-term physical and mental well-being is one way we can show up for the people who stand between our community and danger every day.

Students at Hamilton Middle School finished the year on a high note at their TARGET party, celebrating those who went above and beyond with attendance, grades, engagement, referrals and test score growth. Our volunteers were glad to help make the last day of school feel extra special for these hardworking students and the educators who cheer them on all year long.
