Joking aside, there is a lot of buzz lately about self-performing HVAC installations. While we respect the intrepid spirit required to tackle an unfamiliar and technical task, we often get called to pick up the pieces when things don't go as planned. The list of common mistakes is long but usually includes buying the wrong size unit, installation errors, code/safety issues, and misunderstanding what their unit is capable of. Sadly, we often have bad news for these folks and it ends up costing them more than it would have if they just called us first. Even if everything goes right, customers sometimes call us hoping that we can help them with warranty parts since the company that sold them the equipment will not respond to them. When they do get the parts, replacing them can be much more complicated than the original installation was.
